Melissa Hewison from Ryde has been honoured for the high standards of customer service at her Elite School of Swimming after impressing the judges of the regional Venus Awards for women in business.
The Customer Service category was sponsored by cross-Solent operator, Wightlink.
Melissa set up her swimming school in Gurnard near Cowes in 2015. Her company has grown rapidly thanks to her passion for excellence and devotion to helping people learn to swim and enjoy being in the water.
Wightlink’s Marketing and Innovation Director Stuart James ,who presented Melissa with her trophy at the event at Southampton Solent University, said:
“We all appreciate good customer service and we at Wightlink always endeavour to offer an outstanding customer experience to everyone who travels with us, so we were delighted to sponsor this award.
“I was a competitive swimmer as a girl and set up my own business when I was 21,” she explains. “Up to now, I’ve taught more than 350 adults and children to swim. I believe in treating all my customers as individuals and understanding their requirements and excellent customer service is all important.”
Competition was strong in the new Venus Awards region that spans Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester and Basingstoke – as well as the Isle of Wight – with over 1,500 nominations and applications received in one or more of the 15 categories.
The Venus Awards – dubbed ‘The Working Women’s Oscars’ by Channel 4 – celebrate the vital contribution that women in business make to the local, regional, and national economy, and are unique in that anyone can nominate a friend, client or family member.
